Opportunity for stockperson for part time farm work near Duns.

Versatile stockperson with diverse skill set sought for varied part-time farm role near Duns, Berwickshire to work 16 hours a week. May suit semi-retired individual or one with farming commitments of their own.

We are looking for a stockperson and general farm worker to assist with the running and labour of a 500 commercial ewe herd and 65 cow suckler herd on a 430 acre single site unit.

In addition to this, the successful applicant would also have occasional opportunities to assist with the onsite equine veterinary practice and, therefore, a strong equine background with some administrative and communications skills would be advantageous but not critical. You will be a motivated, flexible team player but also happy to work alone.

The ideal candidate will have a good mix of technical skills, stockmanship and practical ability.

The successful applicant will have the following farm responsibilities and involvement:

· Day to day operations on the farm, assisted by a family partnership

· Cattle care - including calving, assisting with movement records, bedding, feeding, foot trimming and all aspects of general husbandry

· Sheep care - including lambing, dosing, vaccinating and all aspects of general husbandry

· General maintenance on the farm - fencing, steading improvements and maintenance, clearing fallen trees, weed and vermin control, grass cutting etc.

· Tractor work and forklift operations e.g. rolling, topping, muck spreading, grass land management, moving bales etc.

· Work alongside partners and contractors to get the best out of the farm

During times of increased work requirements, eg lambing/calving, there may be the opportunity for additional hours and candidates would not be permitted to take annual leave during these times.

The successful applicant may be offered the opportunity to get involved in the following within the equine veterinary practice:

· Veterinary practice grounds, garden, car and equipment maintenance

· Horse handling

· Grooming, feeding, mucking out of horses.

· Rudimentary in-house laboratory techniques e.g. worm egg counting

· Support three equine vets and our current administration team both at the practice and at client's premises.

Preferred start date - as soon as possible.

Pay commensurate with experience

29 days holiday per year pro rata.

This is a permanent role and the successful candidate will be required to pass a probationary period of six months.

There are opportunities for on the job training and, where appropriate, job specific development.
