We have two exciting new roles at Equitait Veterinary Practice:

 

PERSONAL ASSISTANT

 

Requirements:

· Must be proactive and a self-starter

· Strong communication and inter-personal skills

· Excellent organisational skills

· Able to actively and appropriately prioritise

· Discretion is key - you will be privy to sensitive information in the role

· Excellent IT skills with an ability to quickly pick up new systems as well as utilise MS Office and online calendars

· Be able to drive confidently and be able to read and type whilst a passenger in a moving car

· Be able and happy to work both indoors and outdoors

· Have a sound understanding of equestrian pursuits, agriculture and rural living

· Horse handling experience essential, experience with livestock advantageous

· Previous personal assistant or secretarial employment or qualifications would be advantageous

 

Colin Tait is the senior vet and owner of an equine veterinary practice responsible for looking after over 1000 active clients and 11 staff members. In addition as the lead partner he is also actively involved in running a 450 acre livestock farm. He has a busy work and personal life and is looking for a very discrete right hand man or lady to assist him in his daily responsibilities.

 

This is a full time job and requires a great deal of flexibility in terms of working hours. We would anticipate a working week of 40 hours, with the opportunity of extra hours. Start and finish times can change with regularity and these are difficult to predict as additional calls or emergencies can come in while we are on the road so a home life that can accommodate this flexibility is a necessity for the candidate.

 

The work environment will primarily involve working closely with Colin at the Equitait and Agritait office, out in the car or while he is performing ambulatory veterinary duties and farm work.

We are looking for someone who communicates with ease with a wide range of people. The successful candidate will act as an essential link between Colin, his clients, the Equitait and Agritait team and others. They will be proactive and able to appropriately juggle and prioritise multiple tasks and will have excellent attention to detail.

 

You will have an excellent grasp of MS office and diary management tools, together with the ability to quickly pick up and use new IT systems. Your written English should be of a very high standard as you will be representing the practice.

 

A normal day will typically involve managing the flow of phones, texts and e mail correspondence to Colin and acting as an additional point of contact for any of his stakeholders. You will be required to proactively plan and prioritise work to ensure the most efficient use of everyone's time. You will assist with veterinary record keeping, administration, billing and taking payments from clients. There will be scope for you to undertake veterinary technician or veterinary nurse duties and so excellent horse handling skills are beneficial. In addition, you will be involved in business development and recruitment activities from time to time. You will assist with the accurate maintenance of livestock records, benchmarking and compliance activities involved with the farm. Project work will be available and will vary from time to time. It may involve tasks such as organising client events; applications for grant funding and farm diversification projects.

LABORATORY COORDINATOR / TECHNICIAN

 

We are looking for a part time person to focus on, and continue to develop, our laboratory, specifically our worm egg count service to clients.

 

The primary focus of this role is to provide a streamlined worm egg counting programme and the appointed person would be responsible for coordinating this and performing the majority of analysis while also promoting and developing the service.

 

The ideal candidate will

· Be capable of working alone and in a team

· Be both dynamic and be able to show initiative

· Have excellent attention to detail

· Be an AMTRA approved SQP (not mandatory)

· Previous laboratory work advantageous

· Have good interpersonal, IT and written English skills as liaising with the vets and administration assistants, clients and trade will be important

· Be able to develop current and future laboratory revenue streams

 

The role is likely to between 1-3 days per week depending upon the successful candidate's skill set and availability. It will have a seasonal element to it but has the opportunity for the candidate to develop the service to increase their hours.
